Last weekend, TSMC Chairman Liu blamed Intel on its efforts to persuade the US government to support only local chip companies in the US.
“Not many people would believe what Intel said,” Liu said. “It would be very unfavorable for the United States to only subsidize American companies. Unlike Intel, TSMC is very optimistic about the expansion of production capacity of non-US chipmakers in the United States. This is a great thing. This shows that our decision two years ago was correct. ”
Two years ago, TSMC decided to build a fab in Arizona. Recently, TSMC founder CEO Zhang Zhongmou warned that it is not feasible for any country to try to establish a domestic semiconductor supply chain.
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger is trying to catch up with TSMC in process technology, and is looking for every cent of government funding he can get. He said last week that China’s tendency to plunder Taiwan has made it “unstable.” Intel is one of TSMC’s largest 3nm wafer customers.
